Health and Safety

Health and safety has always been a high level commitment for Taseko and Gibraltar management. The health, safety, and well-being of our employees, contractors and their families is a priority for the Company, which stems from our commitment towards operational practices that result in continuous improved efficiencies, safety performance and occupational health.

By enlisting the support of each employee the Company has developed departmental goals which are aimed at encouraging employees at all levels to take a leadership role in incident prevention. Investing in our employees, and specifically their training, gives each individual the confidence to be a leader in looking out not only for their own safety but the safety of their coworkers.

Milestones

On December 31, 2015 Taseko’s Gibraltar Mine employees and contractors completed a second calendar year in a row without a single loss time incident. The accident free period now exceeds three million person hours worked and is a real reflection of the high standards set by Taseko and its employees. This is a truly outstanding achievement and is unparalleled in the industry.

This success is in large measure a reflection of the skill and dedication of our employees to not only operational excellence but also to the well-being of their fellow workers. Safety is the top priority at Taseko-Gibraltar and we take great care to ensure safety is the first consideration in all decisions and actions we take.

Even before we reached this two-year safety accomplishment, the Province of British Columbia recognized Taseko-Gibraltar’s safety record by bestowing us with the John Ash award at the 53rd Annual Mine Safety Awards held in Victoria, BC on March 23rd, 2015. The John Ash award recognizes a mine in British Columbia with at least one million worker hours and the lowest lost-time accident frequency. Taseko-Gibraltar achieved this award-winning safety record in 2014.
